Dingle Peninsula Freestyling

Sometimes you just got to make it up as you go. Monday we left county Clare for county Kerry and the Kilrush Marina to take a ferry to Scattery island an uninhabited island with 5 church ruins and 1 round tower. On the way we hoped to spot some of the famous dolphins but…upon arrival we discovered the ferry had closed for the season the day before (it is moving target and J had worried about this) It was such a shame because it was a stunningly beautiful day. Time to freestyle!

We decided to travel the Dingle Ring and this is where K fell in love with the emerald isle rolling pastural hills.

We took a car ferry to cut out some driving and cut west for the small town of Ardfert.

Ardfert Cathedral

We visited the Ardfert cathedral and friary. The friary was down a private lane with horse pastures. It was a lovely walk and we had the place all to ourselves.

Ardfert Abbey

Next we hit the Dingle ring and in addition to admiring the beauty, hit the Dingle marina, Dingle Distillery (see K’ post -I am a bit behind on posting!) and Dingle OceanWorld.

To round out the day we stopped at Gallarus Oratory-a very early church, from the 7th or 8th century. It is the only remaining perfect example of a rectangular rubble built structure.

What people could do with out all the advantages we have today it amazing.
